Banking and credit card scams are often very hard to detect. It’s important to always stay aware of the threats in order to give yourself the best chance of detecting them.

There are several things you can do to help protect yourself from these types of scams:

  • Check your bank account regularly to make sure there are no unaccounted for purchases
  • Do not write your PIN down in a place where it can be found
  • Do not to tell anyone your PIN
  • Be cautious about who you give your credit card or other personal details to over the phone
  • Don’t make any purchases on computers with a shared Wi-Fi network
  • Have up-to-date anti-virus software installed on your computer and mobile device
  • Let us know when you plan to travel overseas and which countries you will visit

When you are using an eftpos terminal and ATM:

  • Cover your pin
  • Use payWave whenever possible, so your card never leaves your hand or sight
  • Make sure you can always see your card
  • Only swipe the card once
  • Do not hand over your card - Always swipe the card yourself
