Orange Credit Union grants making 'amazing things' happen in the community

Orange Credit Union Marketing Manager Noelle Cornish says many community groups in Orange are doing “amazing things”.That’s why Orange Credit Union awards community grants to organisations who otherwise might struggle to raise funds for particular projects.

Mrs Cornish said Orange Credit Union liked to make a difference by spreading the grants of under $5,000 throughout the community.“We are always overwhelmed with the number and the quality of applications that we receive requesting support,” Mrs Cornish said.“There are so many different types of community groups in the Orange area doing amazing things.”

Since the community grants program began, Orange Credit Union has donated $389,000 to 145 small projects in Orange and surrounding districts. The credit union offers grants in the areas of welfare, financial services, sport and leisure, education, culture, law and order, and medical and environment.“We base our grants on surplus funds which are usually offered once a year,” Mrs Cornish said.

Recent recipients of Grant funding are Orange Aquatic Centre, Interrelate, Can Assist (wig library), Orange High School, Orange CYMS Junior Cricket Club, Orange Bush Nippers, James Sheahan Catholic High School and Bloomfield Junior Rugby League Football Club. The donation to the Orange Aquatic Centre was to assist with the installation of disabled equipment so patients can access the pool in a water wheelchair. The Orange Bush Nippers will also use the funds to purchase equipment.Interrelate will use their donation to purchase an outdoor table and bench, while Can Assist will purchase wigs for the wig library. CYMS Junior Cricket Club will use their community grant to purchase playing shirts, Orange United Sports Club will purchase netball and soccer uniforms, and Bloomfield Junior Rugby League Football Club will purchase grandstand seating with their grant funds.Orange High School  P&C vice-president Alison Duffield said the organisation was delighted with the credit union's donation.

“We have used the money to purchase two shade marquees which are portable and we can use them for events such as swimming carnivals, athletics carnivals or activities at the school which require sun protection for the students,” she said.“We are very appreciative as it is always difficult for small groups to raise funds.”.
